Accredited & Affiliated
Credentials that
stand behind the advice.
Four marks, and what each one is actually worth to you. Separated into what was earned and what was joined, because presenting them as equivalent would be the easy thing to do and the wrong one.
Certification
Earned, examined, renewable
Certifications are sat and passed. They are the part of this page that took work rather than a subscription.
-
Master Cruise Counsellor (MCC)
An advanced certification from Cruise Lines International Association, sat after the Accredited tier. It requires coursework, ship inspections and documented sailing experience rather than a fee.
What it gets youSomeone who has been aboard the ships being recommended, and who reads a deck plan before a cabin is assigned rather than after.
Consortia
Buying power you cannot access directly
Membership networks negotiate amenities with hotels and cruise lines on behalf of member advisors. The rate is normally the same one the property publishes; the extras are added on top.
-
Virtuoso
An invitation-only network of travel advisors. Participating hotels extend amenities to Virtuoso clients that are not available booking the property directly or through an online agency.
What it gets youAt participating properties, typically daily breakfast, a room upgrade subject to availability, a property credit, and early check-in or late checkout where the hotel allows. Amenities vary by property and are confirmed before booking.
Memberships
The bodies that hold the industry to a standard
Memberships are not achievements, and this page does not pretend otherwise. They matter because of what they carry: accreditation, recourse, and access to the people who can actually fix a booking.
-
Cruise Lines International Association
The industry association for cruise lines and the advisors who sell them. CLIA accreditation is what gives an advisor standing with the lines themselves.
What it gets youDirect reachback to Business Development Managers at the cruise lines — the people who resolve a problem rather than read from a script.
-
American Society of Travel Advisors
The principal trade association for travel advisors in the United States, with a published code of ethics its members agree to work under.
What it gets youA professional standard you can hold me to, and an independent body to raise it with if I ever fall short of it.
Straight answers
Questions people actually ask
Does booking through you cost more than booking direct?
No. Cruise fares are parity-priced — you pay the same as booking the line yourself, and I apply every credit, promotion and eligibility you qualify for on top. Where a planning fee applies to complex land itineraries it is agreed in writing before any work begins.
What is the difference between a certification and a membership?
A certification is examined. Master Cruise Counsellor required coursework, ship inspections and documented experience, and it renews. A membership is joined — CLIA and ASTA accreditation matter because of the standing and recourse they carry, not because they were difficult to obtain. This page separates the two rather than presenting four logos as equivalent.
Is Master Cruise Counsellor the highest CLIA certification?
No. CLIA’s individual progression runs Certified Cruise Counsellor, Accredited Cruise Counsellor, Master Cruise Counsellor, then Elite Cruise Counsellor. MCC is the third of four — an advanced certification, not the top of the ladder.
Do Virtuoso amenities apply to every hotel?
Only at participating properties, and the specific amenities vary between them. Before booking I confirm exactly what a given property extends, so you know what is included rather than assuming a standard package applies everywhere.
